Casual Carnage Narrative: Asylus Beckons – A 6-month-Campaign
About the Event
Vox messages have been intercepted from a lost sector. Asylus, a star-system that stood at the epi-centre of decades of strife. Heretic Traitors, foul Xenos and horrors beyond reality stood at the gates of the Imperium. Trillions of lives, succession chapters that stood tall for thousands of years and blessed souls, all lost to the system out in the far flung corner of the Universe. The messages have been decrypted. Decisions were made. Asylus must be reclaimed.
Welcome! Casual Carnage is proud to announce the start of a new Narrative Campaign of Warhammer 40.000. A narrative driven set of games across six months where Alliances will battle for control of several planets, growing their armies, upgrading their units and fighting for control of narrative objectives.
Casual Carnage is looking for players to join an already-established group of narrative players to start a new campaign. Players will join one of the three Alliances: Imperium, Chaos and Xenos. Each Alliance will fight for the system using Agendas and narrative missions.
Registering for this event means you are hoping to join. August 8th offers a platform for joiners who might have any questions or would like to meet other players. The registration form assumes you wish to join the campaign, regardless of your presence on august 8th.
For those uninitiated, here’s a short summary on what a narrative campaign in Warhammer 40.000 entails:
- Every player starts with an Order of Battle (your point limit that is traveling with you) and a Supply Limit (your point limit to field during each battle) of 1000 points – which is how big your whole army is – and is assigned an Alliance
- Players select one Warlord for the rest of their campaign
- Players can pick their detachment each game
- Playing battles, achieving Agendas (narrative Secondaries) and killing enemy units reward your units with XP
- Units gain Battle Honours (upgrades) as they level up: Weapon Modifications, Crusade Relics or Battle Traits
- If a unit dies in battle, they roll a D6. If they roll a 1, they gain a Battle Scar, which can negatively impact your unit
- As you fight battles, you gain Requisition Points to assist your army, like removing Battle Scars or increasing your Order of Battle
- Each army has access to a general list of Agendas and Battle Traits from the 11th edition Narrative Deck, but also thematic army-specific options from the Crusade rules in their own Codex
- A Warmaster keeps track of the campaign’s progress and helps player along
- The campaign plays out in three phases – each consisting of two battles – where the results of each phase can impact the next. Your Supply Limit and Order of Battle grow as the campaign moves on. Battles will become bigger!
For this narrative campaign, we plan to use the 11th Dominatus Mission Deck and 11th edition ruleset. Based on how many participants register, an additional narrative crusade might be introduced (like Tyrannic War, Pariah Nexus, etc).
Here’s an overview of this campaign:
- Each player can field at least 1500 points of an army, preferably 2000 points for the final stage
- Players will each play one game a month against players of another faction
- To keep track of the games played, armies and upgrades, and other elements of the campaign, we use Goonhammer’s Administratum online tool
- Participation costs €5 (just once, not monthly or anything)
- Players can use Casual Carnage to play their games
- The Warmaster will create a schedule based on the teams and the outcome of each phase
- After all three phases have completed, a Finale-battle will be played – as many players from the campaign battle each other in a special gamemode
- Your army does not have to be fully painted. As long as its fully built, you’re welcome to join. Standins and kitbashes must be communicated with your opponents and the Warmaster
This narrative also hosts some homerules:
- Phase 1 will be 1000 points. Phase 2 will increase each players Order of Battle and Supply Limit by 500. If every player can field 2000 points, phase 3 will add another 500
- When fighting a battle, your Supply Limit has a maximum margin of 30 points (i.e. 1030/1530/etc). Your opponent must consent to this increase and seek to match this as much as possible
- Players will always roll for upgrades, scars, etc wherever a roll is optional. Per table, you get to re-roll one die, but you must use the new roll, even if the roll is the same
- Players always have 3 Detachment points, regardless of Supply Limit
- When finishing a battle, after picking your Marked for Greatness unit, you also pick an MVP from your opponent’s army: a thematic, funny, epic, weird moment for which the enemy unit deserves respect. This will give that unit 1 additional XP and it will automatically succeed its Out of Action test
- When a player loses a second game in a row, they can pick one additional unit for Marked for Greatness, and they will receive one additional Requisition Point
- a Core Stratagem will be added to the list of Core Stratagems: “If I go down…” – 1 CP when a unit with the Deadly Demise ability dies. Its Deadly Demise roll automatically succeeds.
- Just like regular, Enhancements only work for specific detachments. If a unit has one or more enhancements, but the player picks a different detachment, they can choose the same number of enhancements
- Units that have any XP, Battle Honours or Scars can only increase their squad size/number by using the ‘Fresh Recruits’-requisition. Units that don’t can have their squad size changed for free
- Units cannot be split into multiple smaller units of the same datasheet, but they can be player as a smaller singular squad of the same datasheet
- Units with the same datasheet cannot be combined into a bigger unit of the same datasheet
- e.g.: a squad of 10 intercessors can either be played as a squad of 10 or a squad of 5. Never as two squads of 5.
